Chair TUM School of Computation, Information and Technology Contact Details Academic Career and Research AreasSince 2002 Florian Matthes holds the chair for Software Engineering for Business Information Systems at Technische Universität München. He explores natural language processing in medical, legal and enterprise applications, privacy-enhancing technologies for digital platforms and blockchain-based systems engineering. He is co-founder of CoreMedia AG (1996), infoAsset AG (1999), Tr8cy UK Ltd (2018), Blockchain Bayern e.V. (2019), and silverr AI GmbH (2024), and core member of the Munich Data Science Institute (2025). As and initiator and organizer of international conferences and workshops in software and enterprise engineering he fosters the dialog between practitioners and scientists. His academic career started at J.W. Goethe University in Frankfurt (graduated 1988). He did his doctorate at the University of Hamburg in 1992. He worked as a researcher at Digital Equipment Systems’ research center in Palo Alto (1992-93) and served as professor at TU Hamburg-Harburg from 1997 to 2002. Until 2010, he was Dean of Studies at the Faculty of Computer Science and a member of the teaching board of TUM. Since 2020 he is venture ambassador of the TUM Venture Labs.
