Supporting the Legal Reasoning Process by Classification of Judgments Applying Active Machine Learning
Abstract
The Digitization of information is transforming the way we live and creating many new business models. Digitization is also taking place in the legal domain. Legal documents, such as contracts and general terms and conditions, are produced thousands of times a day thanks to numerous online contract generators, e-commerce platforms, banks and insurance companies. Due to this increase of available unstructured data and the enhanced capabilities of algorithms and computing power, the demand for automated data processing, e.g. text classification is increasing. The purpose of this research is to get a better insight into active machine learning and binary legal text classification to see if this approach can support the legal reasoning process.
