Organization of the Module
Lecture
- The lectures will be held onsite in Garching. There will not be any recordings of the lecture.
Case Study by Senacor Technologies
- A case study provided by Senacor Technologies AG offers exciting insights into practice, allowing you to connect the theoretical knowledge from the SITM lecture to practice to deepen the learned contents even more. Participation in the case study is not mandatory and will be included as a bonus (0.3) in the assessment of the exam.
- The case study is offered in both German and English.

Exam
- At the end of this module there will be a final written exam of 75 minutes
- Date: TBD
- The exam will take place onsite (TUM Garching).
- No retake exam will be offered.

- Language of examination is English but questions may be answered in English or German

Learning Objectives and Content
The lecture shows the different facets of strategic IT management from a practical point of view and explains the connections between the different processes of strategic IT management. The main learning objectives are:
- To understand the most important IT management and value creation processes in terms of content and their interrelationships.
- Being able to discuss the fundamental strategic decisions in IT management and their implications.
- Identification of typical problems in the practical implementation of IT management and proposing appropriate solutions.
- Get familiar with relevant methods, standards, and best practices, particularly in the areas of enterprise architecture management and scaled agile software development.
- Understand the socio-economic and technical relationships in IT management.
- Gain an overview of typical job profiles of specialists and managers in IT organizations.
Prerequisites
- Target audience: Master’s programs Informatics (incl. part-time ones), Informatics: Games Engineering, Information Systems, Data Engineering and Analytics, Management & Technology with a strong background in Informatics
- Knowledge and skills at the bachelor's level (Informatics/Business Informatics) especially in:
- Fundamentals of Business Information Systems
- Databases
- Software Engineering
- Business Process Management
