Competence Center: IT Value Innovations for Industry Challenges
Strategic innovation partnership between Siemens IT Solution & Services (SIS) and the Faculty of Informatics at Technische Universität München (TUM)
Initial Situation
Growing Complexity, the often to low utilization ratio oft the IT-infrastructure and the calls for Innovations and IT-Business Alignment of the customers belong to the current challenges for IT-Service providers.
Project Aim
The Competence Center „IT Value Innovations for Industry Challenges“ investigates innovative IT-Services in dynamic value creation networks. Therefor SIS and TUM have announced a strategic innovation partnership for three years.
Realization
Specific projects on topics such as Sourcing and Governance of external IT-Service providers, value flow analysis in the IT-provisioning market, Cloud Computing value networks, and IT-Service management challenges are in the focus of the competence center.
In this context the Chair for Information Systems works especially on two topics:
Value Networks in Cloud Computing:
Cloud Computing is a new IT-provisioning-model, in which hardware resources and software applications are provided as a service over the Internet. This leads to changes in the classical IT-Service business. Therefore, the effects of Cloud Computing on the IT-Service value network are analyzed and innovative cloud-based applications are examined.
Management of Outsourcing relationships:
For most IT-Services outsourcing ventures, detailed outsourcing contracts and specified SLAs are often not enough for a successful management and for the governance of an outsourcing relationship. The focus of this research activity is on the post-contract management and the development of a continuous customer-vendor-relationship.
