Geometric Modelling and Visualization (MSE) (IN8013)

Prof. Dr. Rüdiger Westermann

Time, Place: Mondays, 10:00-12:30 Online
Begin: Date: Monday, April, 25., 2022
Time: 10:00-12:30
Details: We intend to hold this lecture online
Prerequisites: Einführung in die Informatik 1/2 für Ingenieure, Mathematik I und II, Computer Aided Modeling of Products and Processes

This module is only available for students of the Munich School of Engineering. The lecture is given in English.

Content

In this lecture, students obtain insights into some fundamental concepts underlying the representation of geomtric shapes and the visualization of scientific data sets. The lecture is structured into two major parts:

  1. Geometry representation and processing - polygonal surfaces, surface reconstruction, differential geometry, subdivision surfaces, surface simplification
  2. Scientific visualization - visualization mapping, volume visualization, iso-surfaces, shading and lighting, flow visualization

In the associated tutorial, the solutions of exercises related to the course topics will be demonstrated.
