Anian Mack: Hardware-dependency Studies in Iterative Linear Solver Performance
SCCS Colloquium |
Solving linear systems of equations is a ubiquitous task in many scientific fields, but the optimal choice of linear solver is difficult. For large, sparse linear systems direct solvers often fail, making iterative solvers a requirement. In this study a binary classification technique is used to determine the impact of differences in the underlying hardware on the performance of iterative solvers, with a focus on computer systems from different device classes such as laptops, desktop PCs, and cluster systems. The techniques show some successes.
