Laert Llaveshi: Dynamic Thread Count Adaptation for Energy-Efficient Particle Simulations with AutoPas
SCCS Colloquium |
In this thesis, we investigate how to optimize energy efficiency in particle-based simulations using the AutoPas library. We introduce a method to dynamically adjust the thread count based on factors such as the type of simulation and the traversal used. This is important in high-performance computing, where reducing energy consumption plays a growing role in making simulations more sustainable as well as freeing up resources. By identifying cases where fewer threads provide similar performance, we reduce unnecessary parallel overhead. We evaluate our method using benchmarks across different simulation setups and show that high efficiency can be maintained while saving energy.
