The Chair of Software Engineering & AI at the Technical University of Munich has received several recent awards and recognitions for its research at the intersection of software engineering, artificial intelligence, and agentic large language models.

In January 2026, Prof. Chunyang Chen and his team received the Gemini Academic Program Award from Google Cloud. The award supports the chair’s ongoing research on AI-assisted software engineering, with a particular focus on large language models, intelligent software testing, and next-generation developer tools.

The chair was also recognized through the Amazon Research Award in AWS Agentic AI 2025 for the project “Functional Bug-Aware Software Testing via Intelligent Computer Use Agents.” The project investigates how intelligent agents can support software quality assurance by detecting, reasoning about, and reproducing functional bugs in modern software systems.

In addition, the paper “Seeing is Fixing: Cross-Modal Reasoning with Multimodal LLMs for Visual Software Issue Repair” received the ACM SIGSOFT Distinguished Paper Award at ASE 2025. The work demonstrates how multimodal large language models can use visual software information to support more reliable issue understanding and repair.

Together, these awards highlight the chair’s growing research profile in agentic AI, multimodal software engineering, automated software testing, and LLM-based software quality assurance.
