Teaching
Our teaching is built around the idea that students should leave a course with the practical ability to evaluate and justify engineering trade-offs.
We therefore favor hands-on, project-based formats. Students typically work in teams on authentic problems, building prototypes and extending software systems on real cloud infrastructure. Through this work, they learn to evaluate system behavior, understand the consequences of architectural decisions, and make informed trade-offs between competing requirements.
We are currently expanding our teaching portfolio and building the infrastructure for hands-on experimentation. As part of this effort, we are building a sustainability lab that will enable students and researchers to measure energy consumption on real, heterogeneous hardware.
